5 screen-free technology activities
Build a cardboard maze, create a paper circuit and explore cause and effect with hands-on challenges for a creative afternoon.

Technology learning does not always need a screen. Start with a cardboard maze and challenge your child to guide a marble through it by changing slopes and barriers.
Make a simple paper circuit with a coin-cell battery and an LED, or use a child-safe electronics kit to test which materials conduct electricity. Ask for a prediction before every test.
Create a chain-reaction machine from blocks, ramps and toy cars. The goal is not perfection: adjusting each stage builds patience and systems thinking.
Try a communication challenge by giving one person a small block model and asking them to describe it without showing it. The other person builds from the instructions, then both compare results.
Finish with an invention sketch. Ask your child to draw a machine that solves a small everyday problem and label what every part would do.
